hobson's word of the week - #3

yes... at last hobson is back with his word of the week. it took him a bit longer than expected to recover from the reading weekend where his vocabluary and confidence were shot to bits - but he has finally managed to pull it together. it has been a long hard slog and a number of weeks of intensive remediation were required at vocab camps in scotland and sardinia. thanks must go to the lovely elaine for all her hard work and patience.

hobson's word of the week - #3:

lilt

origin of the word:

no idea - wikipedia describes it as a soft drink.

meaning of the word:

a gentle and pleasant rising and falling sound in a person's voice: eg. he's got that lovely irish lilt in his voice.

hobson's context:

hobson to chick: "i say... you sure do have a lovely lilt."

chick to hobson: "f*ck off you pervert!!!"

learning the word:

you will have to surround yourself with loads of beautiful irish ladies if you wish to use the word to it's maximum potential. i can suggest the corr sisters. they sure are beautiful. and they sure do have lovely irish lilts. frank and miguel and paulo live in ireland. they know the corrs. they have crap lilts though. and they sure as hell aren't beautiful. so beware - going to ireland does not guarantee loads of lovely lilts.
